Kathryn Bemrose is a Toronto artist who has been painting professionally for more than twenty years. Bemrose is one of the finest colourists painting today. She deals masterfully with line and tone within colour fields. Her recent works reduce formal elements to contrasts between dense surfaces of saturated colour and lightning-like linear markings. These elements are combined with a sense of balance and interval so that events become discoveries rather than intentions. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bemrose uses "...intoxicating colour. Rarely, in our day-to-day lives are we able to confront strong, pure colour on such a large scale." Stuart Reid +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bemrose's paintings "..quiver and surge with disparate, outlaw lines and jabs and swatches of colour which have lives of their own." Gary Michael Dault

"We can always sense the presence of this painter within the painting as a shadowy focus of acts: decisions taken and revisions made, breakthroughs earned; a mapping of microstructures at once meticulos and unerring." James D. Campbell

"Bemrose paints with her gut: she has sufficient faith in her instincts and the phenomenology of making to ensure the work never falls flat. She knows when to surrender to painting; when to embrace its origins and portents ,and precisely when to slip ,as de Kooning said, into the 'glimpse'. James D.
